Thermoregulation: Butterflies are ectothermic, meaning they rely on external sources of heat to regulate their body temperature. They engage in behaviors such as basking in the sun or fluttering their wings to warm up their flight muscles.

Predator avoidance: Butterflies have evolved various strategies to avoid predators. Some species have evolved cryptic coloration to blend in with their surroundings, while others have brightly colored wings to advertise their toxicity or bad taste to potential predators.

Territorial behavior: Male butterflies often establish territories to attract females. They patrol their territory aggressively, chasing away rival males while waiting for passing females to mate with.
